Target Audience for a thriller.

The target audience for a thriller could be aimed at anyone. From young children to teenagers or adults to senior citizens, it all depends on who the director of the film wants it to be aimed at. No genres have a specific age range as it does not matter what ages views a certain genre, it all depends on the context within the film. Therefore films are given age restrictions all based on the context within the film. Film genres do have characteristic age ranges know. Generally people see Horror films as 18 and over, this is because most horror films can be quite disturbing and may affect the minds of people under the age of 18 (for example, Sweeny Todd: The demon barber of fleet street). This is not always true (for example, Disturbia is a '15' and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters unleashed, which is only a 'PG'. These are both horror films as well).  Thriller films are no different with people's characteristic views. People feel that a thriller film is for people who are 15 and above. This not the case at all, thriller films come for all ages. For example Inception which is a '12A', Reservoir Dogs which is an '18' or Indiana Jones and the last crusade which is a 'PG'.
I found a study that has been made about target audiences for thriller films. The study say's:

'Most people that like thriller films are people who are into intrigue and mystery which also like a bit of a twist. They are people who like to try and work things out for themselves but sometimes never quite get there. They are also the type of person that never gives up trying and will always give it a shot on working out what is happening, yet still loves the element of surprise.

Thrillers are particularly popular with the Under-25's and it is slightly more liked by females. With moviegoers in an attentive and focused mindset, they provide a highly effective, distraction-free environment.'
